Hi all,
This week’s bird is the: White-throated Sparrow
1) This bird really gives off a classic sparrow vibe. It is small, brown, and pretty boring. (BOTW sometimes needs to be a boring bird…)
2) Not only is this bird boring, it’s the same type of boring throughout its whole range. There are no subspecies, despite a wide geographical range spanning all of North America.
3) In an effort to be less boring, this bird sometimes breeds with the Dark-eyed Junco. This leads to some very cool looking hybrid birds (see below).
4) In another attempt to escape its boring life, this bird sometimes makes the flight over the Atlantic, eventually showing up in the British Isles. Then lots of birders appear to admire these brave individuals.
5) This bird is doing pretty well, with a large population of about 160 million birds. There have been some declines across its range, but the bird has also expanded into new areas in recent years.
Have a great week!
I disagree, I do not think White-throated sparrows are boring. I happen to think they’re quite cute, and I love their song.
Great bird. I think he is cool
