BOTW 11/22 - 11/26
happy turkey day
This week’s bird is the: Wild Turkey
Wow, so predictable…
1) The Wild Turkey (or “Turkey” for short) won the 1620-21 “Most Eatable Bird of Eastern North America of the Year” award.
2) After that first Thanksgiving, it was off to the races for Turkey eating. These birds were eaten so much they virtually vanished across most of their range. Bye bye New England Turkeys!
3) Despite hunting them to near extinction here, settlers brought them back to Europe to hunt them there. It didn’t go so well. The Turkeys died before anyone could hunt them…
4) Turkeys are doing well today. People have introduced them back to all those places they were pushed out of. Now they are having their revenge… kind of…
5) You thought Wild Turkeys look weird? Check out its estranged cousin, the Ocellated Turkey.
Have a great Thanksgiving!!!
