Hi all,

Admittedly, you probably won’t be seeing this bird anytime soon. But it’s very cute!

This week’s bird is the: Dovekie

1) This bird has a series of awesome names: Dovekie, Bull Bird, Little Auk, Alkekonge (King Auk, in Norwegian) and its scientific name, Alle alle.

2) This is the bird that all of those Tour de France fans are always cheering for! Get it???

3) This bird lives in the Atlantic, from North Carolina to Norway. They love crustaceans. Sometimes they eat small fish. Sometimes they eat humans.

4) Dovekies nest on cliffs. Why, you might ask? The view is great for watching out for predators, and all of those darn snakes can’t get at them.

5) This bird was/is an important food source for people on Greenland. They are hunted with nets on long poles. Please don’t hunt your backyard birds this way.
