BOTW 9/6-9/10
Worth the wait?
Hi everyone! Bird of the Week is “on the wing” this week, migrating south for the winter. So that’s my explanation for why this is coming a day late. And why this is a rerun bird.
I realize that for some, the passage of time is marked by BOTW, so remember today is THURSDAY.

Hello everyone,
This week's bird is the: Wood Duck
Wow, so beautiful.
Facts:
1) Despite being monogamous, male Wood Ducks aren't great parents, taking no responsibility for feeding or caring for their young.
2) As a result, females are more vulnerable to predators while nesting, leading to higher mortality rates during the breeding season and a skewed male:female ratio among populations.
3) The Wood Duck represents 10% of the annual duck "harvest" of the United States.
4) Despite high levels of hunting this duck population is well managed - with populations increasing from historical lows.
5) Do you own and operate a swamp or wetland area? Consider placing a nest box, these ducks love them!
Have a great week!
